(Oleetedwa wano okuva ku Eppeto(Angle))

Eppeto(angle) likolebwa migendo ebiri (two rays) egisisinkanye ku katonnyeze k’enkomerero ak’awamu akayitibwa akafumito(vertex) .

Enjuyi ebbiri ez’eppeto gy’emigendo(rays) ate akatonnyeze(punkuti) we gyegattira ke kayitibwa akafumito(vertex). Empeto(angles) zirimu:

(i)Eppeto Eryesimbu(right angle)

(ii) Eppeto ezzingulukufu(Straight angle).Lino era liyitibwa "eppeto eggolokofu".

(iii)Eppeto erijjuvu(Full angle).Lino era liyitibwa "eppeto eriweddeyo"(complete angle)

(iv) Eppeto ery'ekifunyulo(Reflex angle)

(v) eppeto essongovu(Acute angle)

(vi)Eppeto erya mwamyakooye(Obtuse angle)


(a) Eppeto (angle).

Epeto is the Luganda word for an angle. Its synonyms are “ensonda” which is the Luganda word for the English “corner”, ekkoona, a borrowed word from English corner. In my view use of the math words epeto and ensonda in math discourse dependes on the context.

The math-word epeto or amaweto in plural which comes from the Luganda verb “okuweta’ (to bend), is more flexible when it comes to formation of clusters of words with interconnected meanings. From the mathword “epeto” (angle) we are able to derive important math words such as:


• Eppetero (compass bearing)

• Amawetero oba empetero (compass bearings)

• Eppeto eggolokofu (straight angle). Contrast this with “ensonda engolokofu”

• Eppeto eryesimbu (right angle). Contarst this with “ensonda ennesimbu”.

• Eppeto erijjuvu (complete angle). Contrast this with “ensonda enzijuvu”

• Eppeto essongovu (acute angle). Note that in Luganda geometry, a “vertex” is “akafumito” (formed by semantic extension).


Digiri z’Amaweto

Amaweto gayinza okupimibwa mu digiri oba ladiyaani. Mu kitabo kino tugenda kwesiba ku bipimo by’amaweto mu digiri .Akabonero ka digiri kalagibwa nga “ ° “. Amaweto gayinza okupimibwa okuva ku 0° okutuuka ku 360°. Amaweto agatalina kipmo kyonna gayitibwa “maweto ziro” ate amaweto aga 360° gayitibwa myetoloozo emijjuvu(full rotations).

Namunigina bbiri ezikozesebwa okupima empeto ze :

(a)Ladiyaani (b)Digiri .

Namunigina eya digiri ekozesa digiri, ekiragibwa nga “ °” digi. ) –omugendo ogwetoloola okuyita mu 1/360 ekya ekyetoloolo ( revolution). N’olwekyo ekyetoloolo ekiweddeyo eky’omugendo kyenkana digi. 360 . Eppeto erya digi. 90 liyitibwa eppeto eryesimbu ate eppeto eriri wansi wa digi. 90 liyitibwa ppeto lya kawereege .So nga ate eppeto eriri waggulu wa digi. 90 liyitibwa ppeto lya lugalaamirizo oba erya mwamyakoye.

Osaana okimanye nti n’ekipimo kya tempulikya kiba mu digiri kyokka ekitiibwa omuyivu ky’afuna ng’atikkirwa kiyitibwa “diguli” mu Luganda. Akabonero ka digiri kaba °: Tukozesa akakulingirivu ° kano okulaga ebipimo by’amaweto nga :

1° , 20°, 45°, 90°, 180°, 360° …

1° Kisomwa “digiri emu”

360° kisoma “digiri bisatu mu nkaaga” kino kiba kikukungirivu ekijjuvu (full circle) oba

Eppeto erijjuvu libaako digiri 360° kubanga kalenda enkadde nga eya Buperusi Zakozasanga ennaku 360°.

Oyinza okwebuuza lwaki amaweto gapimibwa mu digiri  ? Lwaki digiri 360 ? Kino kiyinza okuba nga kalenda enkande nga ey’abaperusi eyesigamanga ku nnaku z’omwaka 360 . Abaperusi bwe baalabanga emmunyeenye ne balaba ga zetoloolera ku munynye eya bukiikakkono digiri emu buli lunaku.
